Mother Health International is seeking volunteer midwives and OBGYNs who believe and are willing to practice using in a traditional midwifery model of care.

We are seeking volunteer midwives who practice gentle birth techniques that allow a woman to birth with dignity, love and with family support.

We are looking for skilled midwives and OB/GYNs who are willing to donate a minimum of one month of their time to serve the women in Atiak, Uganda and Jacmel, Haiti and potentially act as a NARM preceptor.  Please visit www.NARM.org to obtain approval. Volunteers are responsible for all expenses for travel to and from Haiti or Uganda.

Mother Health International has housing for volunteers to stay during their volunteer time with food and basic essentials provided.  We ask that volunteers gather donated supplies in preparation for their journey.

Our birth centers are sustained mostly by small donors, fundraisers and community events. Dinner parties, concerts and even yard sales have given us money to build composting toilets and supply our centers with solar power.

Ambulance Fund: Our ambulances are not locally sustainable because of the high cost of fuel and the distance to the nearest hospital. While we try to keep our transports very minimal, each one that is necessary costs about $150 in fuel alone.

_ Mother Health International is a NARM approved birth center located in Jacmel, Haiti.

We will accept one or two student apprentices per month at the MHI Birth Center in Jacmel.  Apprentices can either come to our center with your preceptor or you can have one of a MHI midwife volunteers, who is a NARM approved preceptor, to serve as your preceptor.  We accept students in Uganda also, but the experience may not count toward certification.

A minimum of one-month volunteer time is required for all apprentices. Fees and other details are on the application. During the apprenticeship, you will observe and practice all aspects of midwifery relating to pregnancy and childbirth with the mother and a NARM approved preceptor. These experiences include prenatal exams, births, and postpartum visits.

Our apprenticeship is perfect for those midwifery students who want to embrace and practice a Traditional Midwifery Model of Care with emphasis towards recognizing that the least interventions brings the best outcomes in birth.  If you are coming with your preceptor she will need to fill out and submit the volunteer midwife application with your application.  Please download and fill out the apprentice application and submit it to info@motherhealthinternational.org.
